 Did you know that with an old style light bulb 70% of the energy is dispersed off as heat? The technology behind the incandescent bulb is almost 125 years old and they are tremendously inefficient - with only about 5 percent of the energy they receive being converted to light. Compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) use at least 2/3 less energy and last 10 times longer. If every American home changed just five of its most-used light fixtures to CFLs, each family would save about $60 every year in energy costs — and together we would save about $6.5 billion each year in energy costs and prevent greenhouse-gas emissions equivalent to those from more than 8 million cars. CFLs reduce utility costs. In fact, consumers can save up to $30 in utility costs over the lifetime of one bulb.
